Hey, good people. My name is Rufaro. I am part of the Spring Harvest team. I’ve been thinking lately about the role the Holy Spirit plays in our lives, and I wonder if you’ve ever paused to consider just how pertinent He really is. We talk about God the Father and Jesus the Son often and easily… but the Holy Spirit? Sometimes, He feels like the least discussed member of the Trinity, even though His work in us is absolutely essential.
Just before Jesus ascended back to heaven - after the cross, the grave, and His victorious resurrection - He told His disciples something profound: “Wait, for I will send another.” That “another” was the Holy Spirit, and that moment ushered in what we now celebrate as the Day of Pentecost.
Among the many roles the Holy Spirit plays, there are four that stand out deeply to me:
He is our Helper, our Advocate, our Intercessor and our Source of Power.
Let’s unpack those.
Have you ever felt underqualified for the life you’re living? Maybe as a spouse, a parent, a friend, an employee - maybe even as a believer. There are moments when we feel like we simply don’t have the words, the skills or the strength to do what’s required of us.
That’s where the Holy Spirit steps in.
He is our helper. Our coach. Our guide. He equips us with what we don’t have and strengthens what we do have. You’re not meant to walk through life relying only on your natural abilities - He fills the gaps.
Sometimes you’ve done all you can do - you’ve applied for the job, you’ve taken the test, you’ve put in the effort - and now it’s out of your hands.
The beauty of the Holy Spirit is that He advocates for you in places you cannot go. Rooms you’re not in. Conversations you’ll never hear. Battles you don’t even know are being fought.
He works on your behalf with a wisdom and authority far beyond anything you could orchestrate on your own. You are never without representation.
There are seasons when the words simply don’t come. You know you need God, but you can’t articulate how. Your prayers feel like whispers, groans or even silence.
Scripture tells us that in those moments, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us, translating our moans and groans into prayers that reach the Father’s heart. He understands what we cannot express and carries our needs directly to God.
That’s not just powerful, it’s deeply personal.
How do you live the Christian life? How do you love well, lead well, stay faithful, stay steady, stay hopeful? How do you navigate a world that feels unstable, shifting, and sometimes downright chaotic?
You do it through the power of the Holy Spirit.
He empowers you to live out truth, to stand firm in adversity, to remain kind in cruelty, to stay grounded when everything around you shakes. He sustains you. He strengthens you. He keeps you anchored.
The Holy Spirit isn’t optional. He isn’t an add-on. He is essential- your helper, advocate, intercessor, and source of power.
I hope this encourages you today!
