The Kindness Rebellion: Jesus’ Blueprint for Championing the Overlooked

July 25, 2025

In a world that often glorifies power, success, and popularity, kindness can feel like a quiet whisper in a very loud room. But when we look at Jesus’ life, we see a blueprint for a different way of living, one where kindness isn’t a soft option, but a bold, radical act.

Jesus constantly championed the overlooked. He stopped for the woman at the well (John 4), dined with tax collectors like Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1–10), touched the leper (Mark 1:40–45), and made space for children (Mark 10:13–16). These weren’t just kind gestures; they were revolutionary in a culture that often ignored or excluded such people.

We might not walk the same dusty roads or wear sandals, but we can still follow in His footsteps. Radical kindness today looks like speaking up when someone’s voice is silenced, sitting with someone who's grieving, or simply choosing to notice the unnoticed. It’s paying attention to people on the fringes, those overlooked, misunderstood, or forgotten.

At Spring Harvest, we see this spirit alive in so many of you. There are stories across our community of people standing up for others, checking in on neighbours, and quietly loving in powerful ways. You are the kindness rebels.

Scripture reminds us in Micah 6:8, "What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." That call to mercy is what makes radical kindness such a courageous, faith-fuelled choice.

This month, why not take up the challenge? Find three small ways to rise up for the underdog. Write a letter. Share a meal. Listen well. The ripple effects can be kingdom-sized.
