Easter 2025

Premier Youth Preaching Prize at Spring Harvest 2024

January 23, 2024

In Association with Premier UnBelievable?

Last year we discovered some amazing young communicators when we ran the Youth Preaching Prize for the first time. Grace Keir, Esther Overton and Thomas Ngome impressed the judges, and the guests at Spring Harvest, with their talks on ‘Why there is hope.’

We love investing in young people and are pleased to announce we will be running the competition again, in Association with Premier UnBelievable? Anyone who is coming to Spring Harvest this year and is aged 11-18 can apply. We are seeking to encourage young people from a broad range of lived experiences to apply, particularly if they haven’t had the opportunity to speak publicly before.

It’s simple. Prepare a short talk to fit the brief. Film it on a phone. Send it to us by Sunday 3rd March * Extended to 11 March.

The judging panel will include Dr Amy Orr-Ewing, Rev Cris Rogers and Dez Brown. Amy’s advice is to remember, “It’s not a filmmaking test. We want to see the way you communicate as well as your content. Don’t forget to have a clear beginning, middle and end, use an illustration and quote from the Bible.”

There can be a winner and a runner-up in Minehead and in Skegness. The prizes are £100, and £25 and some books that might help your preaching journey. All will have a chance to meet Amy at the event for some coaching, and the winners will have the chance to deliver the same talk on stage in the final morningcelebration.

What to do next

Prepare and film your talk on this brief:

Title: Rise Up!

Ephesians 4:1 in The Message says, “I want you to walk – better yet, run! – on the road God has called you to travel.” In other translations of the Bible, this is described as ‘living a life worthy of the calling you have received.’ What does this mean to you? It could help to look at the linked passage Acts 1:1-14 where Jesus promises the Holy Spirit will make the apostles his witnesses to the ends of the earth.

Send it by WhatsApp to 07882 789805. Don’t forget to include your name, age, town, and whether you are going to Skegness or Minehead, with the video.

Have fun and we look forward to hearing from you!

If you need some inspiration, you can see last year’s Skegness winner, Esther Overton, delivering her talk here:
